Welcome to our first DNAdose newsletter. Many doctors and patients have written and phoned me to say how incorporating Pharmacogenomics into their practice has improved their patients lives and assisted them in their medical practice.

In this edition, we look at the use of Pharmacogenomics in the treatment of depression. Consultant Pharmacist, Sam Mostafa discusses antidepressant medication selection and we share a DNAdose case studyof a patient who did not respond to citalopram.

The adoption of pharmacogenomics, the science of prescribing drugs based on an individual's biomarkers or genetic make-up, is far too slow. Biomarkers, which can be examined through a simple blood test, can tell a doctor whether a patient will have a good response to a drug, a poor response or no response at all.
